PLN

My PLN contains a number of educators that are helpful references. For example William Chamberlain, educationblog, smartinson, joedale, and dr.strange. My PLN was acquired by finding useful references from Dr.Strange's contacts. Once I had a few influential contacts I discovered others from them. I do not use my PLN a lot , but I feel that once I become an educator I will use it more to get advice or ideas. I hope to start answering tweets and asking questions more.

Comments 4 Kids

I loved this project. I feel it benefited the children and me. I know I feel disappointed when I work hard on a blog topic and have no response. When I see a comment from someone who took the time to read what I have to say it makes me feel proud and excited. I am sure these kids feel the same way when they read encouraging comments from others. Also it taught me how to communicate through a blog.

EDM 310

I learned so much from this class it was great! I loved learning how to make my own videos, and create a blog. I think that as a teacher a class blog will be very helpful to me and my students. I am glad I had a chance to learn how to create, update, and use a blog effectively. I learned how to use twitter for educational purposes and find videos on YouTube to correspond to lessons I will be teaching as a educator. I loved the virtual field trips I think these will be helpful to my future students and fun to use. I learned so much form this class. Google earth was a little complected , but I think it could have its uses in a classroom. I was very excited to make my first video and very excited for my brother in law to get to see it overseas. I was never bored in this class because there was always something new to do. I liked the fact that I learned how to use technology to benefit students. At first when I signed up for this class I thought it was going to be about learning how to use word processor, and excel :( Thank God it wasn't. I feel that I know a lot more about technology and how to use it now, however I still have a lot to learn. I am probably at Medium level. I feel that to keep learning more I will have to keep PRACTICING!!! I learned so much and enjoyed this class thanks Dr. Strange.

Doug Johnson Seven Stupid Mistakes and 7 Brilliant Things Teachers/New Classroom Rules by Education Innovation:

Stupid Mistakes:

1. Not backing up data.
2.Treating a school computer like a home computer.

Brilliant Things:
1.Put kids in touch with the world.
2.Empower kids with technology.

New Classroom Rules:
1. Come to school every day, unless you would rather just go on line.
2. Bring required materials, including your laptop and cell phone every day.

I chose Not backing up data and using school computers for personal use because I myself have lost very important documents from not backing them up and have lost money, work, and time. Using a school computer as a personal computer is just stupid because anyone has access to your personal information.
Putting children in touch with the world and empowering children with technology is genius because it allows students to learn and connect with others, and become own their ideas and thoughts. Having all lessons and class information online gives students who cant come to class a chance to participate and complete lessons at home. When children have their own means of communication such as a laptop ans cell phone they can learn and complete task earlier and more effectively.

At the Teacher's Desk

click here to view the blog "At the Teacher's Desk "
At the teacher's desk is a blog that allows teachers to share information and resources with each other. I feel that it is important because teachers can receive feedback and support from one another. Unlike just "googling" a topic or idea a blog allows for feedback and comments directly from the experts.I loved the post about teachers needing to become social networking experts. This post gave an awesome example of the importance of becoming a tech literate teacher and how to use social networks to your advantage. There was a sick teacher at school who needed some help finding things for students who were finshed to do so another teacher tweeted the question and instintly was provided with links and feedback!

Michael Wesch Video

In this video Michael Wesch talks about that before the Internet, blogs, YouTube, etc conversations where controlled by a few. These conversations had no significance, and where not connected to a community. People began to feel that they must be on T.V. to be significant. People began to search for an identity and recognition.
Now with these technologies people are able to express themselves freely. Also people are able to become less nervous since you are not watching them just their video. As human beings we want connection. With YouTube people are connecting without restraint. As a teacher you can encourage students to create videos to express their ideas and personalities freely. These helps students develop their creativity.
