Wikipedia

I think that wikipedia is not a reliable source for information. I sometimes use wikipedia to find other source's "references" about certain information. I think you could use wikipedia if you wanted a generic overview of what something was. I would not use wikipedia as a works cited source for a paper or research project.

Randy Pausch Last Lecture: Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

WOW! This was an awesome speech. I learned so much. I loved how he put everything out on the table about his wife, kids, and cancer at the begin of the speech. He spoke about his childhood dreams and how he accomplished them. He taught his audience that all things are possible if you have the will to succeed. He talked about specific dreams he had as a child and how he accomplished those dreams. One of his childhood dreams was to experience zero gravity. Through his research work he got the opportunity to ride in Nasa's "Vomit Comet". He encounters his first "brick wall" no faculty is allowed with students he then overcame this by researching ways he could go along so he became" a media journalist". I thought it was important he talked about specific thing she did to over come his "brick walls".

He did not get t o play for the NFL , which was one of his childhood dreams, but he said that the "experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted." That is a great point! He introduced the term "head fake" this is when parents put their children in soccer they don't want them to be soccer players, but learn to be team players, aggressive, goal oriented, fair, etc. He also talked about important people that have been involved in his life teachers, professors, bosses, colleagues.

He talked a lot about his biggest childhood dream of being a imagineer at Disney. He got the chance to work on the Aladdin project with a research team and Disney. He was offered a job at Disney , but turned it down and worked consultant work for Disney. He started the building virtual worlds courses at Carnegie Mellon. This course consisted of teams and projects. Their was no "book learning. The course is now global. He is most proud of his Alice project this project uses gaming to teach children.

Randy's most important points came at the end of his speech. He explained how important your parents, teachers, students, and colleagues are as role models. He also said it is important to help others because he is a firm believer in Karma. He told the story of how he didn't get into Carnegie Mellon grad school and he kept calling and had a meeting with "Nico". This shows us how important it is to leap over your "brick walls" with persistence you can achieve what you want. He also explained that it is important to apologize when you screw up. At the end he revealed that this speech was not "Achieving Your Childhood Dreams" but "How to lead our life". Also the speech was not for us , but his children. Their were two head fakes!

It's Not about the Technology

Mrs. Hines did a awesome job of making her point. I totally agree with everything she said. Teachers not only need to be up to date with new technology they need to know how to effectively use the technology. Teachers must be learners to keep their students up to date. A teacher must want to learn and share new materials with their students.
However I also feel for a teacher and students to get the most out of technology the schools must be funded appropriately with the best technology. A student and teacher must be able to have access to adiqute technology. Mrs. Hines has some good points, but I dot know if the school systems are going to be able to fund the technology right now.

Michael Wesch: A Vision of Students Today

This video was exactly what my college carer has been like up to now. I feel that a university is more of a bussiness than a educational learning ground. Exspecially the first two years of undergrad work is mostly done in large lecture settings. I dont think you get much at all out of that. You are studying to pass four test to get out of the class instead of studying to learn the class material.
I feel that the video was done very well. I would not change anything about the video. The director/producer got his point across very well. The only thing I might have done was focus on what was happening in a real class while the lecture was taking place, to watch what the students were doing.

Integrating ICT into the MFL classroom

This website was so neat! I watched a video about Mr. Dill's class. in the video it showed how a student, Emily, who was out for an illness was stil able to get her work off the class podcast for an upcoming test. This was great because the student did not expose the other childen to the illness, the student was able to come to school prepared to take the test, and the teacher did not have to spend class time catching the student up. The podcast is not only available anytime it is also accessble anywhere. If a student is traveling they still have access to the podcast if they have a computer. However a student must have acess to a computer to use these types of tools.

The podcast also allows for higher level thinking skills. The podcast is a new and creative way for students to learn. Not only is this tool important for students it is important for parents. Through the podcast a parent can be kept up to date on whats happening in the classroom. The parent also has another way of communication with the teacher. This website also gave a great link

Class Podcast

In the class podcast last semester I think the students did a good job. They where organized, and well prepared for their topic. The pod cast was interesting and educational. Since there where four different students on the podcast it made the podcast diverse in the answers to Dr. Strange's questions.

However the podcast was a little long. The students could have looked at the camera to make the podcast better. I wish there would have been visuals to go along with the talk. I do like the video cast better than the Podcast because I can see the people talking. In podcast I can only listen to the speakers so it can be very boring.

W6 Comments 4 Kids

I commented on Mr. Lamshed's class blog. They are year 5/6 boys at Hackham East Schools. They are using a class blog to learn and let others see what is happening in the class. The students are learning from others around the globe throught comments and feedback.

The first blog I commented on was A Busy Week Ahead. The boys where getting ready to perform the national anthem for a federal member of Parliament, Amanda Rishworth. The next blog I commented on was about the boys Swimming Week Fun Day. The boys where learning about water safety and trying to improve their swimming skills. They had a great video posted for this blog. The last blog I commented on was Commenting on Content. Kye commented on comments being about content as well as encouragement.
