Why is important for students to post their work to blogs (or in other ways)?

ACCESS

ACCESS is a distance learning program(online learning) for high school students. ACCESS has many course offerings including foreign language and math. If a student wishes to take online classes they must meet with their counselor and have a counselor attend Information Live training seminar. This program was started in 2004.
This program helps provide high school students with greater learning opportunities.
The program connects the students with a teacher via technology and unlimited resources for learning. This program helps students achieve learning from a distance. This program also creates equality among students because students using this program all have access to unlimited resources and information. Not just one teacher with one set of books!

ALEX

ALEX is the Alabama Learning Exchange. It is basically an organized website that contains materials for teachers. It listed every standard and course of study for students in Alabama K-12. The website is organized into sub parts. One sub part is the lesson plan section which contains lesson plans for all grade levels for all types of courses. There are web links and searchers available for educators. However I feel like the most useful link is the podcast treasury. I was able to find great sources there! I feel like this part of the site is most useful for teachers of the future!

Kaia's blog

WOW! I think it is so awesome that Mr. Chamberlin created comments that had a voice thread so Kaia could somewhat understand what was going on. I feel that when she hears and sees feedback she will be encouraged and excited about learning and sharing her world with others around the world! I also think it is great that Kaia's father was able to talk to Mr.C's class about his home and country! These children are benefiting so much! They are experiencing things that they may never have had the chance to experience. They are also learning about other cultures and communities! I want to experience something like this hopefully by the end of the semester I will personally be able to connect with someone across the world ,and share something interesting with them and hopefully the can share something interesting with me!

The New Media Literacies Project

The New Media Literacies project is a research program through MIT Comparative Media Studies program that tries to find out how to teach children what they will need to participate in the global interaction. Their website has a ton of information on strategies and tips for teaching students about interacting globally. The group focuses on becoming a producer in the media world not just a consumer. The group has created photos, blogs, video's , and much more to explain their stance.click here to read more

The New Media Literacies by the NML Staff

I think that the new media literacies skills are important to posses so that you can succesfully function with the enviroment. Now we are not just consumers but producers as well with new technology. I feel that I posess multitasking skills because I can do many things at the same time. I also am a visulizer beacuse I learn best through pictures, and film. I feel to acquire the other skills one must practice using the technology.

The Networked Student

WOW! This video helped me understand the importance of creating a personal learning network. I feel that connectivism is a great tool and is more beneficial than traditional learning. I feel that almost all students have access to technology (Internet), however they are not using this technology to their advantage.
I myself now how to use goggle, create blogs, and access iTunes, but am I using the tools to my greatest advantage. Probably not. I think that when this class is over I will have a better understanding of how to create a learning network. This video points out just how useful new technology is.
As teachers we should teach children how to build a learning network. We should also provide information on how to successfully communicate with experts. I feel the most important part of creating a learning network is be organized and good time management.

This Is How We Dream Parts 1 and 2

This video talks about the ways we have communicated in the past. Research was done in the library with books. Now research is done on the internet. The internet allows you to research internationally. You are researching the world through the internet, not just you library. You can get information from all sources not just the books available at your library.
With media today you can see how someone voted, or what they stand for. The internet creates information that will live forever. This information can be updated at all times. Information is also FREE!! Through the internet you are connecting with others and sharing knowledge.
You can now collaborate and compose with others. You can use images, films, and music in your writing. You can now collect threads of experiences and put them together. With the internet you are able to view information from the past, present, and future. Since materials are updated instantly!

Pictures

here is a picture of my dog Beau.

Dr. Christie

Dr. Chrisite's website contained so much information! I focuesed on dynamic uses of digital cameras. I loved how she had information that was available in different forms. She had powerpoints, links, and photos this was great. I learned alot from her powerpoint presentaion and photos.
Some education uses of digitail cameras she talked about were for field trips, class projects, and showing pictures of the class. Having a digitail camera would help you post pictures for a class blog. She explained about grants and fund raising projects to purchase a camera for the class. I also think it was great that she provided contact information for teachers and students.

Duke University iPods in school

Duke provided free iPods to students in 19 courses to enhance classroom materials with digital media. Duke has gone on to broaden the program to promote the effective use of new technology in higher education.. So far the program has enhanced students learning and knowledge of technology. I think that this is awesome and an advantage for students and educators.
Other universities should follow Dukes lead and implement similar programs. The students are learning more information more effectively. Also teachers are using new technology for educational purposes. I think more schools should try this ex specially since almost all students already own ipods.

iTunes U

iTunes U is a part of apple that lets teachers and students acess education media for free. Teachers and students can create video sand audio and post it in the apple store. Listeners can listen or watch materials for information about a certain subject or lesson. All of the downloads are free.
I think that this is an awesome way for teachers to make class information avaiable to all students at any time. If a student missed class or needs to review material they can. Since this is a free service from apple makes it even better. I think that both students and teachers can benefit from iTunes U.
