In this video Michael Wesch talks about that before the Internet, blogs, YouTube, etc conversations where controlled by a few. These conversations had no significance, and where not connected to a community. People began to feel that they must be on T.V. to be significant. People began to search for an identity and recognition.
Now with these technologies people are able to express themselves freely. Also people are able to become less nervous since you are not watching them just their video. As human beings we want connection. With YouTube people are connecting without restraint. As a teacher you can encourage students to create videos to express their ideas and personalities freely. These helps students develop their creativity.

My favorite response to this assignment is this question I posed to Keysha in TT11:
ReplyDeleteIn his talk Dr. Wesch held out hope that the new media would lead us to new and better conversations with others, that could lead to a culture of caring. Do you see any validity to his argument. Think of the many conversations we have had this semester using the media. Do they provide you with any hope, any sense of how powerful - for good - these new relationships and conversations could be?
